Soutzoukakia with Potatoes

  • 5 skinned potatoes, each one sliced into 4 pieces.

Ingredients for the meat:

  • 1 kilo of minced meat
  • 1 clove of grated garlic
  • 1 grated onion
  • 1 egg
  • 25 ml of olive oil
  • 50 ml of water
  • 1 teaspoon of mint
  • salt and pepper

Ingredients for the sauce:

  • 1 spoon of tomato paste
  • 1 cup water


Place all the ingredients together:

Place all the meat ingredients into a bowl and knead well.  Mould the mixture into small rolls of a longish shape the size of your fist.  Place these rolled elongated meat balls into a roasting pot leaving space in between each one.  Now place the sliced potatoes in the gaps between the meatballs. 

Now create the tomato sauce by placing 1 spoon of tomato paste into 1 glass of water and mix until thick. 

Place the sauce onto the soutzoukakia and potatoes.  Place another 1 1/2 glasses of water and 1/2 cup of olive oil around the soutzoukakia and potatoes.

Cover and place into the oven for 1 1/2 hours.

Serves 6-8 servings.
