Recipe for Souvlaki


  • 1 kg of pork, chicken or beef.
  • 8 Pita breads
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 cup of olive oil
  • Salt, pepper and oregano seasoning
  • Tzatziki
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1 Onion


Cut the meat into small cubes approximately 1 inch thick.  Take the meat and insert skewers through it, using 8 skewers for all the meat. 

Pour the olive oil into a bowl, now take the two lemons and squeeze the lemon juice into the bowl, add salt, pepper and oregano mixing thoroughly.  Cook the souvlakia over a barbecue fire, on a skillet or in the oven. 

Spread some olive oil on the pita breads and insert them into the oven.  Make sure they do not become dry, they should be slightly brown on each side.   

After the meat is cooked dip the skewers into some lemon and olive oil sauce.  For each souvlaki remove the skewer by rapping the pita bread around the souvlaki and pulling it out. Place portions of the chopped onion and sliced tomatoes into the pita bread along with tzatziki sauce. Make sure the sliced tomatoes, and chopped up onion is divided equally among all  portions.

Serves 4-6 servings.
